Samuel Schroeder from Holmen High School, won Best of Show in
the 2008 Wisconsin Junior Duck Stamp Contest. Schroeder's
watercolor painting of a pair of Northern Pintail.
"I chose the Northern Pintail as the duck I wanted to paint
because it had a very simple look to it, unlike that of the
merganser of a duck with a very distinct and unique feature.
Though unique ducks are always cool to see, I wanted to make a
stamp based on the classic-looking duck that most may recognize,
but at the same time, I didn’t want to paint mallards—they seemed
too common. I also loved the colors on the duck and the feather
